A Valentine’s Date with Rebecca Ross

2024 is the year of all things books. This year I’ve made it a goal not only read books (not really a goal for me because I love reading all the time), but to really make an effort to connect with readers and authors. Last night, at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. I had the opportunity to see author Rebecca Ross. I was so excited when I saw on her Instagram that she was doing an event here in D.C. and signed up immediately.

You may know that Rebecca Ross writes mostly young adult and fantasy books. The two books that she was talking about for this event were the Letters of Enchantment duo-logy, Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows.

The event was moderated by a staff member of the Library of Congress. For those of you who have never been to the Library of Congress, I strongly recommend it. It is an amazing and unique place to hold an event like this. The moderator was PERFECT, she asked great questions and kept the conversation lively and fun! Rebecca was so down to earth and fun as well. I love that she seems like someone I would totally love to be friends with. You can appreciate how invested she is in the characters in her books. She described how she came up with Iris and Roman, the main characters of these books. My favorite part of the conversation was when she discussed how she incorporates really heavy topics into these romance books. She is genuine in the fact that not everything is going to be rainbows and sunshine. One thing she said that will really stick with me is how she balances the bad with the good.

There’s always something good worth fighting for.

I have to admit that I had never been to an author event before. I don’t have many bookish friends here that would enjoy going to something like this, so I decided to go by myself. I also am not someone to go to events alone, so I was really stepping out of my comfort zone by going to this. I am so glad that I did. I chatted with other people who were there and connected over the love of books. After the book talk she stayed to do a signing. Of course I had to bring my book copies to get signed. The entire time I was standing in line, I couldn’t believe that I was really about to talk to her! Howver, when I got there I was so shy!!! All I could do was say hi and smile while she signed my book. I totally froze! She was so sweet though and said that it was nice to meet me and I thanked her for coming and signing my books.

I’ll definitely have to practice my fangirl persona so that next time I meet someone that I admire, I’ll be able to say actual words…A core memory was definitely made last night, and I will treasure my signed books forever!
