As part of Sunny Babe PR influencer team, I had the opportunity to read this ARC by J.M. The description of the book seemed interesting so I signed up and received the ARC.
The Vampires of Malvania used to be united. Now, Malvania is broken into four manors ruled by the Viper Morada, the Arachnid Estate, the Maggot Mansion, and the Crow Court. Lila Bran and her brother Marcus were humans living as murine in the Viper mansion. The Viper siblings were cruel, violent, and vicious. Lila manages to escape but finds herself locked into a contract with Ambrose Draven, master of the Crow Court. Lila learns that she is no ordinary woman, she is so desired by the vampires that the Vipers are willing to declare war against the other manors to get her back. Lila realizes that she can no longer be a weak mouse, she needs to learn to fight back. Ambrose starts to train her and their relationship develops into something much darker and deeper.
I have never read a vampire romance before. To be honest, I wasn’t even aware that this genre was even a trope. I think overall I would not say that I am into vampire romance books, BUT, I did enjoy this book. It had enough of a story, excitement, thrill, and spice that I enjoy in a romance book. The FMC Lila was portrayed as a weak little mouse. I didn’t think this was a fair assessment of her. That girl has been through some trauma! Being an orphan and living life as a murine to a group of cruel and vicious vampires would break anyone’s soul. I appreciated that she found her courage and strength again by training with Ambrose. I also loved that Ambrose identifies himself as a monster, but he runs his manor as a fair and just leader. The book ended on a cliffhanger and I am now invested in wanting to read the next book to find out what happens. It’s a vampire romance, but don’t knock it til you try it. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes dark romance.
