When we last left off, Elspeth’s mind had been completely taken over by the monster. She had tried to kill the Prince. Ravyn showed up 10 minutes to late to do anything about it. They are so close to gathering all of the Providence Cards. The only one that remains is the Twin Alders card. This is the card that the Shepard King traded his soul to get. Now that he is completely in control of Elspeth’s body, he is the only one who can show them the way to get it. It will come at a cost. To retrieve the Twin Alders card you have to be will to sacrifice anything. They only have until the solstice to retrieve the card and cure the magic, or it will be too late. Elspeth, Ravyn and the others will be lost forever.
This book was even better than the first one. The way that Rachel Gillig writes the characters is more magical than the story itself. I love that the book is told from different points of view and you can see the stroy play out from the perspective of the most important characters. As much as I wish there was more, I am glad that this series was only 2 books because really it wrapped up perfectly. I highly recommend these books!
